Ear infections are among the most common infectious diseases, especially in children. To combat an ear infection and its symptoms with essential oils, they must be selected with the objective of attacking the infectious agents, reducing pain and inflammation.

The Eucalyptus Lemon essential oil is often indicated in cases of ear infections due to its powerful anti-inflammatory properties. It is the citronellal that it contains for more than two thirds of its composition which has these properties. It acts by modulating the action of various enzymes intervening in the metabolism of the arachidonic acid. This acid is an important component of the inflammatory reaction. It is indeed at the origin of the production of various molecules whose activities lead to inflammation.
The citronellal, by playing on the metabolism of the arachidonic acid, will thus limit the inflammatory reaction which occurs at the time of an acute otitis. Therefore, the essential oil of Eucalyptus Lemon is particularly suitable for this synergy.
The Linalol Thyme essential oil is a powerful anti-infective. Linalool is found in the majority (up to 50%) and has a broad spectrum of action from an antibacterial standpoint. It will be then effective in the fight against the bacteria responsible for the infection or the superinfection of the ear. Belonging to the family of terpene alcohols, it is also and above all a major antiviral, just like the terpinen-4-ol and the trans thuyanol-4 contained in this essential oil.
The essential oil of Thyme with Linalol has thus a role of size in this synergy: it is THE anti-infectious component of the mixture, which will help to eradicate the bacteria and virus responsible for the otitis.
The Eucalyptus Radiata essential oil brings several necessary properties to the mix here. First, it contains 1,8-cineole, known for its anti-inflammatory action on the ENT sphere, and terpenyl acetate, which modulates the activity of a molecule of the inflammatory reaction (nitric oxide). These two mechanisms, different from that of citronellal, come in complement and reinforcement of the anti-inflammatory effect of the essential oil of Lemon Eucalyptus.
The essential oil of Eucalyptus Radiata is also antiviral and antibacterial by the presence in its composition of 1,8-cineole, alpha pinene and alpha terpineol which are molecules acting on many microbes. With the essential oil of Thyme with Linalol and its different anti-infectious composition, the essential oil of Eucalyptus Radiata ensures the mixture a broad and complete action on the bacteria and viruses responsible for the otitis.
Finally, we must mention its immuno-stimulant property. It will allow to mobilize at best the immune system to fight the infection jointly with the various anti-infectious molecules mentioned.
The Fine Lavender essential oil has a major role in this synergy: it is strongly analgesic. It has linalool and linalyl acetate as its main components. These molecules act in two ways. Firstly, they will inhibit the transmissions by the acetylcholine of the nervous messages. They will also act specifically on cellular receptors in the brain such as opiate receptors, which has the effect of attenuating the brain's response to pain. By these two modes of action, the essential oil of Lavender Fine will be of great help to relieve the pulsating pain of acute otitis.
In addition, a nervous calming and sedative property is also attributed to this essential oil, due to its effects on various nerve receptors. It will thus limit the sleepless nights often synonymous with otitis by facilitating sleep despite the pain.
To fight against the infectious agents responsible for ear infections, the body needs to have good immune defenses. The Tea Tree essential oil will help strengthen them because of its content of a specific alcohol: terpinen-4-ol. This molecule is indeed a very good immune stimulant: it mobilizes white blood cells and promotes the proliferation of antibodies, essential components for the defense of the body.
In addition to this, Tea Tree has powerful anti-infectious properties that will effectively help eliminate the virus or bacteria that caused the ear infection.
The Roman Chamomile provides an essential oil very rich in monoterpene esters. This class of molecules has many properties, some of which are very interesting in the relief of acute ear infections. The angelates that it contains in majority are indeed strongly anti-inflammatory and will thus limit well this principal symptom of the infection.
Moreover, the essential oil of Roman Chamomile is also a very good analgesic. Angelates are among the molecules with a known role on the opioid receptors of the brain, which are the morphine receptors. By its modulating effects on these receptors, this essential oil will attenuate effectively the pulsating pains which the baby can feel, while being soft and of adapted use to the youngest.
