A wet cough is the manifestation of a congestion of the respiratory tract. Allergies and smoking can be responsible, but the main cause is bacterial and viral infections such as bronchitis. The pathogens will irritate the airways. The body's response to this irritation is a hypersecretion of mucus, intended to protect the walls of the bronchi and trachea. The purpose of a productive cough, because it is full of mucus, is to clear the airways. During this expulsion, the pathogenic particles are brought up and spit out because they are trapped in the mucus. The wet cough is thus an essential defense mechanism put in place by the body. The medications generally used are not there to stop this cough, but to facilitate it. Their action leads to the fluidification of mucus and stimulates its expulsion from the respiratory tract. A synergy of essential oils with expectorant and mucolytic virtues can therefore offer a more natural way to get rid of this annoying cough as quickly as possible.

The Green Myrtle Essential Oil is one of the most suitable essential oils for the care of oily coughs. It contains two molecules whose action is highly sought after in this synergy. These are alpha pinene and 1,8-cineole. The first is here the most important because it constitutes more than half of the composition of the essential oil of Green Myrtle (up to 68%). It provides the latter with a powerful expectorant action, i.e. it stimulates the clearing and expulsion of mucus from the respiratory tract. The alpha pinene acts specifically by regulating the bronchial hypersecretion by a stimulation of the glands with mucins of the respiratory mucous membrane. These glands produce the "mucin" which takes part in the formation of the mucus. The alpha pinene is in particular very effective in the event of chronic or acute bronchitis, of which the fatty cough is often one of the symptoms.
In addition, the joint presence of limonene and alpha pinene in the essential oil of Green Myrtle gives it a balsamic property. This qualifier comes from the term "balsam". Limonene and alpha pinene will indeed act like a balsam and calm the irritated respiratory mucous membranes.
The Niaouli Essential Oil brings interesting properties to this synergy. It is indeed a recognized antibacterial and antiviral oil. The 1,8-cineole, the alpha terpineol and the limonene which mainly constitute it each have an action on different categories of microorganisms. The 1,8-cineole is rather antibacterial with an action in particular shown on the staphylococci, the alpha terpineol acts on several viruses and bacteria, and the effect of terpenes, like limonene, is especially antiviral. This combination of molecules makes the essential oil of Niaouli strongly anti-infectious, allowing to fight infectious bronchitis often responsible for the occurrence of fatty cough.
Finally, having 1,8-cineole, and in less quantity of alpha pinene, this essential oil also brings a complementary expectorant property to the mixture.
In case of fatty cough the essential oil of Eucalyptus Radiata has very interesting properties. Very rich in 1,8-cineole, it is mucolytic and expectorant, which means that it fluidifies the mucus and allows its expulsion out of the respiratory tract.
The 1,8-cineole will indeed stimulate the mucin glands (a constituent of the mucus) but also promote the ciliomotor activity of the mucous membrane of the respiratory tree. For more details, the mucous membrane constituting the wall of the trachea and bronchi has ciliated cells whose function is to mobilize the mucus to facilitate its expulsion. By stimulating these cells, the essential oil of Eucalyptus Radiata will thus take part in the release of the respiratory tracts.
The Scented Inula Essential Oil is extremely expectorant: its terpene content will promote effective decongestion of the respiratory tract by judiciously complementing the effects of Eucalyptus Radiata essential oil.
Moreover, its use perfectly adapted to the babies and pregnant women makes it completely compatible with the relief of fatty coughs. Moreover, these coughs being often the result of an infection having caused an inflammation of the respiratory tract, the recognized anti-inflammatory properties of this essential oil will be beneficial here.
The Tea Tree Essential Oil is the anti-infectious and immunostimulant component of the blend. It contains terpinen-4-ol, a very strong antibacterial, but also antiviral alcohol, which will help the body fight off cough-causing pathogens.
More largely, the immune defenses will be reinforced because this alcohol also leads to a mobilization of the white globules. By this operating mode, this essential oil thus ensures an optimal defense against the many infections which can cause a fatty cough.
The Nigella Vegetable Oil has multiple useful properties for fighting a wet cough. First of all, Nigella oil has antimicrobial properties that help reduce infection and contamination. It is also immunostimulant. It will indeed increase the natural defenses to help your body eliminate the trigger of this wet cough. Finally, Nigella oil has bronchodilator properties thanks to the nigellone it contains, to allow you to breathe better and thus avoid coughing.
Both pregnant women and babies are very fragile users. This is why it is important to dilute essential oils in a Sweet Almond vegetable oil to allow for safe and easy use. In addition, Sweet Almond has soothing and penetrating properties, which are great for taking care of yourself while you're healing!
