How to relieve muscle pain with essential oils

Muscular pains of the sportsmen, in particular the aches and cramps, are manifested by pains and stiffnesses on the level of the muscles having been solicited and are related to micro-lesions or micro-tears of the muscular fibres. If, in spite of this, the pains appear, it is advised to use heat, to massage with an adapted mixture of essential oils then to practise a soft sport (walking, bicycle).

Why these essential oils?

The Noble Laurel helps to relax the muscles

The Noble Laurel essential oil acts on the nervous system; it is a regulator of the parasympathetic and sympathetic systems. Here, it will allow the activation of the parasympathetic system and therefore the resting of the body. This will lead the body to implement more quickly the repair processes of the damaged tissues.

The antispasmodic properties of alpha terpineol and terpenyl acetate (respectively alcohol and monoterpene ester) will inhibit pain and stiffness of striated muscles by relaxing the muscles via the disruption of ionic exchanges at the synapses (junction between two neurons), which will limit the transmission of messages causing muscle contractions.

The analgesic effect of the sweet gaultheria

After athletic events, one can be prone to aches and pains, cramps. The Scented Wintergreen Essential Oil is composed of between 95 and 99% methyl salicylate, a terpene ester that relaxes muscles through two mechanisms.

First of all, it is antispasmodic. It has an action similar to that of linalool present in Lavandin Super; it disturbs the exchanges at the level of the ionic channels (membrane proteins allowing the passage and the exchange of ions) between the nervous fibers and thus inhibits the passage of the nervous impulse; the spasms, such as the cramps, are thus suppressed. Secondly, it has a rubefacient action that is to say that it dilates the blood vessels which causes a surplus of blood circulation; the muscles are thus more irrigated and warm up, this heat relaxes them and thus prevents their contraction.

On the other hand, the methyl salicylate has important analgesic properties particularly effective in cutaneous application against the muscular pains (aches, cramps).

Lavandin Super has an anti-spasmodic effect

After a sporting effort, muscles and joints need to rest. The Lavandin Super essential oil will be of great help thanks to its calming, anxiolytic and sedative properties. The monoterpene alcohols (linalool, terpinen-4-ol) as well as linalyl acetate, present in this essential oil, are active on the nervous system and thus decrease excitability and stress, both of which cause muscle tension.

These molecules, as well as camphor, are also musculotropic spasmolytics (promote muscle relaxation) and have the effect of relieving all kinds of muscle contractions. Indeed, linalol, a monoterpene alcohol of this essential oil, compete with acetylcholine (neurotransmitter), thus limiting the ionic exchanges necessary to the passage of the nerve impulse which inhibits the involuntary muscular contraction.

Finally, the linalool and camphor are analgesic and will completely soothe the post-sport pains.

Why these vegetable oils?

Arnica oily macerate, the anti-burden par excellence

The reference Vegetable Oil in case of sports pain is of course the arnica oily macerate. Thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties, induced by the lactones that make it up, this oily macerate will reinforce the action of Sweet Clover for a quick and effective result. It is finished of the cramps and other aches, thanks to the analgesic action of Arnica, which comes to supplement that of the essential oil of Noble Laurel by bringing there complementary active molecules.
