Why these essential oils?

The Italian Helichrysum limits the appearance of hematomas

A moderate or severe sprain is a shock that can lead to the rupture of blood vessels, blood spills into the tissues and a hematoma appears, the Essential Oil of Italian Helichrysum has very effective components to prevent the formation of this "bruise" and therefore the pain that follows. The italidiones, sesquiterpene ketones are indeed very powerful anti-haematoma agents. Thanks to their remarkable chelating capacity, they prevent the diffusion of blood under the skin and promote the resorption of the hematoma. Italidiones as well as neryl acetate, a terpene ester, also have anti-inflammatory properties which will reduce the oedema appearing during a sprain.

Anti-inflammatory properties of Lemon Eucalyptus

Citronellal, a monoterpene aldehyde, which makes up the majority (65 to 82%) of Lemon Eucalyptus essential oil provides it with the majority of its properties to come to terms with sprains. Sprain triggers a process of inflammation, citronellal is a powerful anti-inflammatory and anti-rheumatic: it relieves joint pain, modulates the body's immune response and calms the sensations of heat and redness that result.

The citronellal is negativizing. It has soothing properties by action on certain neuromediators (molecules allowing the transfer of the nervous information) which will come to relax the person reached and thus to slacken its muscles in the neighbourhoods of the sprain. Citronellal is also a muscle antispasmodic and will relax the muscles that may be subject to these spasms; these last two properties will allow the joint to rest, which will ensure a rapid recovery.

Lavandin Super relaxes the muscles and the mind

It is notably calming, anxiolytic and sedative properties that the Lavandin Super essential oil brings to this synergy. Indeed, the monoterpene alcohols (linalool, terpinen-4-ol) as well as linalyl acetate, a monoterpene ester, are active on the nervous system and decrease excitability. They will help the citronellal of the Lemon Eucalyptus to relax the affected person in order to let his joint recover from this trauma.

The linalool and camphor of this essential oil of Lavandin Super are also analgesic and spasmolytic musculotropic (promotes the relaxation of muscles). This essential oil will be associated with those of Lemon Eucalyptus and Peppermint to reduce spasms. Indeed, the linalool present between 25 and 39% in this essential oil, enters in competition with the acetylcholine, thus limiting the ionic exchanges necessary to the passage of the nervous impulse what inhibits the involuntary muscular contraction.

The vasoconstrictor action of Peppermint

Sprains are mostly pain and Peppermint Essential Oil is a very good local analgesic.

It is menthol, a monoterpene alcohol, which has pain-relieving properties; it is also a local anaesthetic by "cold sensation". It therefore prolongs the vasoconstrictive effect (decreases the diameter of blood vessels) of the ice pack, often the first and intelligent reflex to the sprain. The vasoconstriction of the blood vessels decreases the diameter of the vessels, thus the size of the oedema, and calms the pain.

Menthol is also a good antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory. It will combine with other essential oils of the synergy to increase its properties and relieve the sprain.

The analgesic action of the Noble Laurel

It is the famous analgesic property of Noble Laurel essential oil that gives it its place in this synergy. This property is given to it by the eugenol which, even present in small quantities, is a very good painkiller. The presence of 1,8-cineole in great quantity in this essential oil allows a better diffusion of the active ingredients in the cutaneous tissues since it is promoter of absorption. This last property increases the anti-pain effect and accelerates the remission of the wound.

Why this vegetable oil?

Arnica reduces inflammation

To support the anti-inflammatory action of Lemon Eucalyptus, the Arnica Oily Macerate comes to bring its own little soldiers, the lactones. It thus reinforces the anti-inflammatory action of the synergy to calm the pain quickly. Thanks to its circulatory properties, Arnica will also reinforce the action of Italian Helichrysum and reduce the likelihood of bruising, which often appears following a sprain. Moreover, this vegetable oil will facilitate the application of the synergy by serving as a support for essential oils.
