Aerophagia is the release of too much air into the digestive tract. Too much gas in the digestive tract causes an expansion of the stomach which, when it is important, results in bloating and belching. Thanks to the action of anti-spasmodic and carminative essential oils, you will be able to get rid of these gases more easily.

Methylchavicol present between 50 and 75% in Basil essential oil is a powerful antispasmodic at the gastric and intestinal level. It is highly recommended during digestive problems directly related to spasmodic disorders (bloating, aerophagia, nausea, digestive spasms).
Linalool, between 8 and 30% in this essential oil, is a monoterpene alcohol which gives it calming properties; it increases the level of dopamine, a neurotransmitter (molecule ensuring the transmission of information between neurons), which allows to calm excitability. Linalool is also a sedative. It acts on the autonomic nervous system and on various neurotransmitters, it thus makes it possible to regulate the mood. Lastly, this component is relaxing; these last properties make it possible to limit the stress being able to be the cause of the aerophagia.
Limonene, a terpene, present between 38 and 50% in Caraway essential oil gives it choleretic properties (production of bile by the liver) while carvone (50 and 58%), a ketone, completes this digestive action with its cholagogic properties (release of bile in the intestine). These properties make it possible to advance the food bolus in the intestine which avoids an overabundance of digestive bacteria in the digestive tract and thus prevents the fermentation of food which then causes bloating and eructations. Carvone is also carminative, which means that it facilitates the expulsion of intestinal gases; it therefore limits bloating and other intestinal pains. This molecule has antibacterial properties that will destroy the bacteria in excess. This essential oil of Caraway reinforces the spasmolytic properties of the essential oil of Basil by inhibiting the action of acetylcholine and histamine which are both spasmogenic. These phenomena of fermentation, related to the high presence of slow sugars (pasta, cereals), occur in the right colon (ascending) and are calmed by the plants of the family of the apiaceae such as Caraway.
The linalool present in major quantity in this essential oil (65 to 78%) confers stomachic, carminative and digestive tonic properties (intestinal motility).
The Coriander Seed Essential Oil is also a good antibacterial and antifermentary and attacks the bacteria or germs in the gut responsible for fermenting food if there are too many of them. In that, it will allow the reduction of the digestive disorders. The phenomena of putrefaction produce malodorous gases and are related to the digestion of proteins at the level of the left colon (descending), the essential oil of Coriander Seeds contains constituents which will help with the digestion of these proteins by avoiding their putrefaction. This high concentration of linalool also gives it real calming properties since, as we have seen for the essential oil of Basil, linalool calms excitability and regulates the mood.
The majority molecule of Lemon essential oil is limonene. It has recognized properties on the digestive system: in particular, it has a choleretic and cholagogue action, i.e., it increases the secretion of bile by the liver and then promotes its release into the intestine, which helps to digest fats and neutralize certain toxins. Limonene also acts on the gastric motility, i.e. the contraction of the stomach which supports the progression of the food bowl. All that thus makes it possible to optimize digestion; however, a good digestion of food will make it possible to better eliminate the air of the intestine.
The essential oil of Lemon has just like the essential oil of Cardamom a carminative property, but this time this property comes from the activity of limonene and not that of an ester. The presence of two different molecules with the same property allows a greater field of action which optimizes the expulsion of gases produced in the digestive tract.
Often indicated for all digestive problems in children thanks to its digestive tonic power, cardamom essential oil is particularly suited to combat aerophagia thanks to its carminative property, i.e., its ability to promote the evacuation of intestinal gas.
The terpenyl acetate, present between 30 and 40% in this essential oil, has also a powerful antispasmodic activity. Indeed, by acting by disturbance of the exchanges on the ionic channels present at the junctions inter-neurones at the level of the nervous system, the terpenyl acetate makes it possible to calm even to remove the spasms of the smooth muscles surrounding the digestive tract what will attenuate the pains due to the distensions.
The Essential Oil of Petit Grain Bigarade is composed of linalyl acetate, a monoterpene ester with strong antispasmodic properties; indeed, it causes a sustained and progressive relaxation of smooth muscles. It will come to lend a hand to the terpenyl acetate of the essential oil of Cardamom to relax the muscles surrounding the digestive tract and thus relieve the pains related to the pressure exerted by gases in the digestive tract.
Thanks to its neurotropic action (on the nervous system), this essential oil is rebalancing and nervous calming; it will thus decrease the anxiety which can be one of the causes of the phenomenon of aerophagia.
