Italian Helichrysum Hydrosol: benefits and uses in cosmetics and natural health

Adept of rocky soils, the Italian Helichrysum can be found all around the Mediterranean. Its nickname of Immortelle refers to its yellow flowers which, even cut, never fade. Its rarity and low yield make it a very precious essential oil, just like its hydrolat. It has the same properties! The Italian Helichrysum hydrosol is very active on the circulation to relieve bruises, bumps and scars. It will also work miracles on the face, for mature and acne-prone skin. Latin name: Helichrysum italicum G. Don. Distilled part: flowering tops

Who can use it?

Due to the presence of ketones (italidiones), this hydrosol should not be used by pregnant and breastfeeding women as well as children under the age of 3.

Adults and Teens Children under 6 years old

Main properties

  • anti-hematoma : it has been shown that the italidiones, largely present in the essential oil and in smaller quantities in the hydrosol, help to promote the resorption of bruises and hematomas after a shock, but also to prevent their appearance.
  • circulatory : the hydrosol of Italian Helichrysum promotes circulation throughout the body. It indeed activates the peripheral microcirculation, and would have a slight vasoconstrictor action. It thus makes it possible to relieve all the small venous problems such as the hemorrhoids, the heavy legs, the couperose etc.
  • healing : the hydrosol of Italian Helichrysum has a great healing action, it allows to attenuate the blistered scars, acne or postoperative.
  • anti-inflammatory : the Italian Helichrysum has the ability to calm skin inflammation, it thus acts both on itching and redness or inflammatory pain. The hydrosol is thus very suitable for irritated skin and damaged by eczema, psoriasis, but also acne.
  • purifying : the hydrolate of Italian Helichrysum has a purifying action on the blood system, but also on certain organs such as the pancreas or gallbladder. It thus facilitates the elimination of toxins from the body.
  • anti-oxidant : the diones present in the hydrolate of Italian Helichrysum help fight against skin aging. It has been proven that Italian Helichrysum has a significant effect on the prevention of skin wrinkles.
  • mucolytic : the presence of eucalyptol in the hydrolate of Italian Helichrysum gives it mucolytic properties to thin the mucus in the respiratory tract.
